Tour overview

Uluwatu Sunset & Kecak Fire Dance

Uluwatu Temple sits on a 70-metre cliff at the southern tip of Bali. Late afternoon is the best time to visit: the light turns gold, the waves crash below, and the temple’s monkeys are at their most playful.

As the sun drops into the ocean, a chorus of seventy men begins the hypnotic “cak-cak-cak” of the Kecak dance, telling the story of the Ramayana around a blazing fire.

Experience story

Fire, chant, and a sky on fire

Uluwatu temple on top of a sea cliff at sunset

There is no music in Kecak — only voices. Seventy performers sit in circles and chant in shifting rhythms while dancers in gold costumes act out the rescue of Princess Sita.

The finale features Hanuman, the white monkey king, kicking through burning coconut husks as the last light fades from the sky. It is loud, joyful and unforgettable, and it is the perfect ending to a day in the south.
