Mount Batur Sunrise Trek & Natural Hot Spring

Mount Batur is the most rewarding two hours of walking in Bali. You start by head-torch under the stars and reach the crater rim just as the sky turns orange over Mount Agung and Lake Batur.

After breakfast on the summit — eggs and bananas cooked in the volcano’s steam vents — you hike down past old lava fields and finish with a warm soak in a natural hot spring facing the lake.

  • Local mountain guideOne guide for every four hikers, head torch included
  • Volcano-steam breakfastEggs and banana sandwiches cooked by the crater
  • Natural hot springEntry ticket included, with towel and lockers

Experience story

Watching Bali wake up from a volcano

Hiker view of Mount Agung over a sea of clouds from Mount Batur

At 4 a.m. the trail is a line of head torches zig-zagging up the black slopes. The pace is gentle and your guide stops often, so anyone who walks regularly can make it.

At the top, the clouds sit below you like a sea. As the light grows, Mount Agung appears first, then the lake, then the villages of Kintamani. Long-tailed monkeys wander between the hikers looking for breakfast — keep your banana close.
